A Trip To The Dentist

They left me waiting in the dental chair for some time, reclined, hampered, paper bib around my neck. I could not move my head but I heard the clandestine dripping of the tap somewhere beyond my periphery. A reptilian face appeared in the doorway. The dentist blinked his salamander eyes and slurped his long body toward me. With wet, suction cup fingertips, he felt around my face until he got to my mouth, and thwipped his scaled digits inside. His tongue flicked and he stared into the middle distance.

“Looks good here,” said the lizard, and he shimmied belly first out the door, leaving me to be harangued by the dental assistant for the next twenty-five minutes about my flossing habits.
